Seek for The Best

Some people always have the nose to get the best deal. We might not like some of them because, in some cases, they could be a little sneakier. Sometimes they will do whatever it takes to reach the goals. Zacchaeus in Luke 19:1-10 was one of them.

He used his position as a tax collector (he was the chief tax collector) for the Roman government to pocket extra cash from the money collected from his fellow Jews. Nobody liked him, and he didn't seem to care. Perhaps money was more important than friendship to him. However, he always has the nose for the best deal. When he learned that Jesus was on the way to his town, he knew how to get closer to Jesus. That was by climbing up to a tree, which on Jesus' way.

Out of his surprise, Jesus stopped for him. Regardless of how badly people see Zacchaeus, Jesus wanted to visit his home. Nobody felt that Zacchaeus deserved this, but Jesus says: "Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham." (Luke 19:9, NIV) In response to his salvation, he gave half of his possessions to the poor and paid back four times the amount to anyone he had cheated before. What a transformation! It was all because he had the heart to chase after the best proactively.

Are you, like Zacchaeus, willing to proactively chase after the best, especially in spiritual matters? Share with your partner, whether you are a proactive or passive person. Pray for each other that we will proactively seek after the best that God has prepared for us in His Kingdom.
