After earning a bachelors in Agricultural Science, Arthur worked with the BC Provincial Government for several years. Sensing God’s call to missionary and pastoral ministry, he returned to Vancouver to study at Regent College where he met his wife Janice and received his Masters of Divinity. For 10 years they served with OMF International in Borneo, Malaysia. In 2000 they moved back to Vancouver to serve with OMF and later as campus pastors with University Christian Ministry at UBC. During this time Arthur earned a Doctorate of Ministry at Carey Theological College and helped his wife Janice raise their 2 children. Arthur loves to cycle, eat the smelly king of fruits Durian, and go for long walks along the seawall with Janice.
There are many kinds of love: A mother and Father’s love for their child. The love of siblings and friends for one another. Romantic love. The love God has for us which the New Testament describes as agape love, the kind of love that sacrifices oneself for another. God loves you and I and then He calls us to love Him and to love others with that same kind of love.
But the world is often characterized not by love, but the opposite. We live in a world broken because of our Sin. A world in which we sometimes ask, “Why? Why God?”. Why is this happening? Why is this happening to me or to the people I care about?
